VCT Group has been helping businesses and individuals save money on their electricity bills and support clean energy since 2008. VCT Group began by installing microFIT and FIT projects. We have worked with individuals, businesses (including Guelph Manufacturing Group, Kindred Credit Union, and Pelee Island Winery), charities (such as Erb Street Mennonite Church, and Rockway Mennonite Collegiate), and municipalities (like the County of Wellington, Township of Wellesley, and Town of Blind River).
In addition to developing over 6 megawatts of FIT 3 contracts for clients, we are also owners of over 200 kilowatts of solar installations. As managers for Community Energy Development Co-operative, VCT Group supports over 7MW of solar systems with a value of $30 million. We stand behind every system we install, knowing that keeping them in top operating condition is essential for the co-op investors to meet their expected returns.

In addition to being a co-founder of VCT Group, Dale is Board Chair of both Aeryon Labs Inc. and Kindred Credit Union, a board member of Community Energy Development Co-operative Ltd. and a former board member of Sustainable Waterloo Region and Lucid Energy Inc. He is an investor in Power Takeoff LLP, a member of MEDA’s Waterloo chapter, and an investor in MEDA’s programs. Dale is a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), and Community Renewable Energy Waterloo.
Dale previously spent 17 years at BlackBerry-maker Research In Motion helping build the company from startup to world-renowned corporation. His most recent responsibilities there included Program Manager for the BlackBerry 8700. As Program Manager and reporting directly to the COO, Dale oversaw all aspects of product development including product and market definition, hardware and software development, quality assurance and new product introduction. Dale also led the development and commercialization of the DigiSync Film Barcode reader which received technical awards from both the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (“Emmy Awards”) and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (“Academy Awards”).
Jerry is co-founder of VCT Group, a member of Community Renewable Energy Waterloo and SUN Co-operative (Sudbury Renewable Energy Co-operative) and an investor in Lucid Energy Inc. Jerry is a founding director and board member of the Entrepreneurs Organization, SouthWest Ontario Chapter and Vice Chair of his church council.
Jerry is a 15-year veteran of senior management in government within Community Services. His “green” work experience began when he managed and administered the Ontario Division of the Federal Government Energy Mines and Resources R-2000 Energy Efficient Housing Program. He studied Public Administration at the University of Western Ontario and became a registered Municipal Clerk and Treasurer through course work at St. Lawrence College. He is also a graduate of the University of Waterloo Human Kinetics and Leisure Studies and holds a diploma in Business from Wilfrid Laurier University. Jerry has also conducted extensive research into consumer behaviour and owns a sales consulting and training business teaching these techniques to sales forces across Canada and the United States.
Prior to joining VCT Group as Vice-President of Finance in 2008, Brian studied energy efficient and environmental technologies in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba, receiving his Bachelor of Environmental Design (BED). Following this he pursued further studies in computer science and began working for Convergys/AT&T. From this, Brian became a partner in a computer consulting firm, starting up a computer sales company alongside the consulting business, as well as teaching high school computer science courses. Brian left those endeavours to join the financial co-operative, Mennonite Savings and Credit Union, in 2002 where he subsequently held several technical, lending and management roles and earned the designation of Fellow of the Credit Union Institute of Canada (FCUIC). During this time Brian also obtained his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Wilfrid Laurier University. Following this he pursued further studies in accounting, completing the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) program in 2011. Through this he has subsequently received the designation of Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).
Brian is one of the founding members of Community Energy Development Co-operative Ltd. and has served as the President of the organization since its incorporation in 2012. He is currently serving on the board of directors of the Federation of Community Power Co-operatives, is a member of the council of Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church, and is a member of Mennonite Economic Development Associates.
As part of the Operations and Maintenance team, Jim repairs and services systems, ensuring they are operating to their full potential, and our clients are maximizing their generation and revenue. Jim is often on the road – you may see him servicing your installation. He joins us from Panasonic Eco Solutions and Newton Group where he supervised installations of both residential and commercial solar systems. Jim has his Diploma in Computer Engineering Technology from Sir Sandford Fleming College.
VICE PRESIDENT, OPERATIONS
In 2017, Stephen joined VCT Group to develop new business areas, provide project management, and improve efficiency of installation and generation. Prior to joining VCT Group, Stephen spent 22 years in Computer Aided Engineering software at RWDI (Guelph) then ANSYS Inc. (Waterloo), specializing in computational fluid dynamics (CFD). During that time, he was involved, in various capacities, in research and development, project management, business development, strategic partner relationship management, computer programming and sales & technical services. Disciplines of focus included: power generation (wind, nuclear, coal), turbomachinery, injection molding, automotive torque converters, additive manufacturing (3D printing), battery safety, turbulence modeling, microclimate, wind engineering/wind loading, pollutant dispersion, precipitation impact modeling, thermal comfort, building ventilation and fire modeling. Stephen holds a Masters of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo.
As part of the Operations and Maintenance team, Wes repairs and maintains our more northern systems, ensuring they are generating to their full potential. Wes is a Licensed Industrial Electrician with 17 years experience in electrical, industrial, and construction maintenance, and the Electrical Apprenticeship Programs at Sault College, Northern College, and Durham College. Wes has worked as an electrician and in maintenance capacities in a multitude of industries. His broad work history includes electrical equipment installation and maintenance at Domtar, installation and maintenance at INCO, and power systems maintenance at Espanola Hydro.
Sandra joined VCT Group in 2015. As the Manager of Accounting & Finance her primary responsibilities include preparing and documenting accurate journal entries such as payables, receivables, invoicing, payroll, remittances, depreciation and accruals, as well as establishing and managing project budgets and cash flows. Sandra brings over 20 years of accounting and finance management gained through a variety of industries including construction, manufacturing and service industries in which she has created numerous accounting policies and procedures. Sandra obtained her Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Wilfrid Laurier University.
Michael joined VCT Group in 2010, and as the Manager of Technical Design Services, his primary responsibilities include electrical system design and project management. Michael studied Electronics Engineering at Conestoga College and holds a 442A Industrial Electrician ticket and Master Electrician. Previously, Michael worked in a senior role managing the design and implementation of more than 30 control systems in the high volume manufacturing environment of Kraus Carpet Mills. Prior to this, his work included performance and failure analysis, reliability testing and circuit board design at Research In Motion.
Carole joined VCT Group in November 2010. She brings extensive management experience from the insurance and private wealth management industries, where she worked in both customer service management and supervisory roles for over 20 years.
At VCT Group, Carole plays an integral role in the operations and compliance requirements surrounding both microFIT and FIT projects with the Ontario Power Authority, the applicable local hydro distribution companies and their inherent processes. Carole is responsible for customer relations with VCT’s client base and handles the day to day facilitation of VCT’s accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll.
Carole graduated with honours in Business Administration – Management Studies at Conestoga College. She obtained her Canadian Institute of Management (CIM) designation from Wilfrid Laurier University and has also taken a variety of courses at Wilfrid Laurier University as she works towards obtaining her degree in Business Administration – Communication Studies.
In 2019, Jenna joined our VCT team as the Manager of Marketing and Brand, where she is responsible for the marketing and communications development. In addition to the strategic marketing development, she manages social media, branding, advertising, events and website development.
Prior to joining the team, Jenna was the creative leader, inspiring and executing brand solutions for both B2B and B2C companies, while co-founding a Toronto advertising agency.
Her photography has been seen in installations across Canada and has helped raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Having worked for Getty Images, Wireimage, TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival), Toronto Fashion week and renowned celebrity photographers, her work has been used in both the celebrity entertainment and fashion industry.
With several international design awards, and extensive experience in design, strategy and project management, Jenna is dedicated to developing marketing solutions with a forward-thinking approach, while pushing the boundaries of creativity to deliver powerful results.
