Wind Energy: Products

Vigor utilizes a unique vertical axis wind turbine based on an invention by Dr. Alexander Gorlov. The principle advantage of Vigor’s wind turbine is the implementation of an airfoil shaped blade with a helical twist. Vigor’s turbine generates lift throughout its entire rotation which offers a number of advantages, including:

  • Smooth, vibration-free rotation resulting in quieter operation.
  • Energy capture from wind coming from virtually any direction.
  • Efficient generation in locations where shifting winds are common.

Wind turbines are available in 3 kW and 5 kW models. (actual install of 3 kW model at an airport is shown below).

Ontario Renewable Energy Approval (REA) for Wind Energy was established September 2009 as part of the Green Energy Act. Here are the requirements for small turbines installations within Ontario.

"Wind facilities generating less than or equal to 3 kW do not require an REA. The structures supporting free-standing and building-mounted wind turbines may require municipal building permits. For further information, contat the local building department. These turbines typically generate enough energy to power your lights and fridge.

Wind facilities generating over 3 kW but less than 50 kW require an REA, however, the requirements are simplified and there are no mandatory setbacks. These facilities are sometimes called “small wind” and could support from 2 to 38 households, or supplement a small commercial operation."
